Case study / Mar.2025 / Dev / Client: Irys
Irys Mcp Server
I built Irys MCP Server as a solo project to simplify data operations on Irys for developers, agent builders, and Irys users. Before this, users had to manually code their own functions to store and retrieve data, which created friction for non-technical profiles and slowed experimentation. In 2 days, I delivered the full server end-to-end with MCP tool interfaces and direct Irys integration, so users could access common data operations through a simpler developer workflow. The main technical challenge was API and tool design: abstracting complex blockchain operations without hiding important behavior. The project reached its goal by being adopted qualitatively by community users.

02 / Constraints
Problem
- Designing MCP tools that abstract complexity without losing control
- Creating a clean API surface across Irys data operations
- Delivering quickly while keeping the developer experience usable
03 / System
Architecture / workflow
- Solo-built MCP server in 2 days
- Irys data upload and retrieval through MCP tools
- API/tool abstraction for easier integration
- Community adoption from developers and agent builders
04 / Evidence
Results / impact
- Delivered a functional Irys MCP Server in 2 days
- Simplified store/retrieve workflows for Irys users
- Adopted qualitatively by the community
